DC in the Pink
Mon, 04/09/2007 - 3:18pm
Every year cherry trees bloom and draw millions of visitors to the nation’s capital to absorb the views of pink and white. Some years it is so cold the buds barely want to peek out, and others it is so hot that they burst out, bloom and snow a pink storm of petals before anyone realizes that the event has happened. The fickle seasons of DC makes guessing when the trees will bloom almost as exciting as gambling in Las Vegas, and as predicable with the results.
Considering how warm our so called winter has been, is a sign of what we can expect for the DC Cherry Blossom Festival, with the planned event to be April 14th, though it depends this year on how fast Spring comes to DC for when the blooms come. With the warm weather of this past winter, a visitor should expect the blooms earlier this year; that is if the last part of winter mirrors the first part.
So, if you want to see the white stone of the memorials in DC surrounded by the beauty of pink petals then you may want to come in the last two weeks of March. Just remember to also take advantage of our Metro, the DC area world class bus and subway system, instead of driving to the basin, since parking is at a premium and you can spend more time looking for parking then you will walking the basin taking in the one of a kind views.

I love the Cherry blossoms

My family and I come to see the cherry blossoms every year. We live right outside Washington, DC in the Virginia suburbs, so it's easy for us to take the metro into the city.
One word of advice is that if you're going to drive in during the Cherry Blossom Festival then you should plan on spending time looking for parking.
