On Tuesday American University students protested Karl Rove after he gave a speech to the Young Republicans Club. Reportedly students were throwing objects at his car and had to be physically removed by public safety. Above is a video taken from a student's camera phone.

Civil disobedience and speaking out is one thing. Resorting to violence is something else entirely. How pathetic.

Ashcroft at Hofstra University

I was at a recent speech by John Ashcroft at Hofstra University. Of course, it drew many protesters yelling and screaming about how Ashcroft had stolen all of their civil liberties, mostly due to his Patriot Act.

However they couldn't point to a single example of a lost liberty, only to media induced catch phrases about domestic spying. They didn't understand that even if their accusations were true - Ashcroft only enforced laws passed by congress - which he was legally required to do. The congrssional vote was unanimous, so blaming evil conservatives didn't fly either.

They then, instead of having an intellectual debate, resorted to chants, insults, and shouting down those with a different point of view.

That's the difference today, the Right is willing to debate any issue, the left has zero tolerance for a differing opinion. It's a bit sad, and a lot scary.

You hit the nail on the head

Exactly right.

Just to be correct...

The congressional vote on the Patriot Act was not unanimous, it was "near" unanimous.
The Senate voted 98 to 1, 99% in favor.
The House voted 357 to 66, 84% in favor.

Now I feel exactly right ;)
