Mackey's Pub Review

It’s Thursday, the workweek can’t end soon enough, and you find your self craving a good drink to usher in the weekend. Preferably, a cheap drink.

If you work in the Farragut area of DC, chances are you’re heading to Mackey’s Public House. An Irish pub located on L street between 18th and 19th, this popular happy hour spot has the feel of a friendly neighborhood bar and a special every day of the week.

On any given weeknight between 5-7pm you’ll likely find the bar packed with lobbyists, consultants and lawyers that inhabit the K street corridor. Other times, the bar is quiet. In the warmer months, the dozen or so tables on the patio are a great spot to watch the rush hour traffic go by. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy- with lots of spots to gather and mingle. The front end of the expansive bar is largely taken up by the bar, with stools and high top tables in the surrounding perimeter. Further back, you’ll find traditional tables where c-workers catch up on workplace gossip over common pub fare - think fried, greasy, and battered. Chicken tenders, chips and salsa and other appetizers are half off after 8pm Monday-Friday.

With multiple TVs and accompanying specials, Mackey’s is also a great place to watch your favorite sporting event. And for those in Virginia, a second location is now open in Crystal City.

Like many pubs in the city, Mackey’s is not what you’d call authentically Irish. But with unbeatable happy hour specials—both food and drink-- and a friendly environment, who really cares?
