Porters Review: Good drinks, good service

Porters
1207 19th Street NW

Every now and then a bar or club can surprise you. Like the dive bar with shockingly good mojitos or the poorly manicured, hole in the wall serving a crème Brule to die for, looks can be deceiving. But at Porter’s Dinning Saloon on M street, you won’t find any surprises. With a straightforward, no fronting attitude, what you see is what you get. And for many loyal patrons, that’s exactly how they like it.

Located just south of Dupont circle and just north of K Street, Porter’s enjoys a convenient location, and has the diverse clientele to show for it. On any given night, you’ll likely find a group of business types enjoying an extended happy hour, sports fans coming in to catch the game, and interns and recent college graduates drawn by the promise of cheap drinks. Each group has a different plan for the night, but they all come to Porter’s for the same reason- to drink.

Many bars and clubs get caught up trying to create atmosphere and lose sight of the fundamentals— good drinks and good service. At Porters you’ll find both, and with three floors, there is something for everyone, including a DJ on weekends, 12 plasma TVs broadcasting major sporting events, and a porch for enjoying the warm summer weather. During nightly happy hour from 4-7pm, patrons can score all beers and drinks for half-off. And a menu of American classics such as mini-burgers, filet minion and other American classics, offers a welcomed accompaniment to a wide selection of beers and liquor. Just don’t expect any surprises.

Awesome place...especially since you can't smoke inside now!
