Review of Tabaq Bistro in the U Street Corridor

It’s my personal belief that everything is better with a view. And that’s especially true when enjoying a good meal. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find an elevated perch in a relatively flat city like DC. Tabaq Bistro, located at 1336 U street NW, offers diners a rare, captivating view of the city, not to mention fabulous Mediterranean cuisine to boot.
Located in the hot U street corridor, Tabaq Bistro is the perfect location to soak in the DC skyline. Although far removed from the picturesque monuments of the mall, the view is one that’s a bit more invigorating- the lights, buzz and activity of the surrounding neighborhood. The small rooftop dining area is encased by glass, providing an equally compelling atmosphere in all seasons. In warm temperatures, a retractable roof exposes patrons to the warm summer breeze.
But Tabaq offers more than a great view. A small yet comprehensive menu of traditional Mediterranean dishes is enough to satisfy those not lucky enough to grab a choice rooftop spot, or that lack the patience to wait. An interior space offers diners an equally enjoyable atmosphere.
Don’t expect to be immediately seated at this popular spot. Even with a reservation, you’re likely to be told, “It’ll be a few minutes”. But as another popular saying instructs—good things come to those who wait.
