- Tours are available for groups of 10 or more people. You must submit your request through your Member of Congress up to six months in advance. These self-guided tours are available from 7:30am to 12:30pm Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays). They are first come first serve
- The Secret Service’s codename for the White House is the “Crown”
- Construction began in 1792 and ended in 1800
- The building was originally called the Presidential Palace or Presidential Mansion
- As early as 1811 the public began referring to it as the White House because of it’s white-painted exterior. It officially became known by its current name when Theodore Roosevelt had the “The White House” engraved on his stationery in 1901.

- In 1814 the White House was burned down by the British, leaving only the exterior walls.
