Urban Film Series Hits E Street Cinema

A few nights ago marked the public premiere of the indie film “And Then Came Love”, starring Vanessa Williams, Eartha Kitt and Ben Vereen. The smart romantic comedy is part of the Urban Film & Discussion Series taking place monthly at Landmark E Street Cinema at 555 11th St., N.W., a great place to catch a flick and hang out afterwards. Each film is followed by brief Q & A period in one of the theatres, generally featuring the filmmaker or director. Read more »

“Modernism: Designing a New World 1914-1939” at the Corcoran Gallery of Art

Modernism is certainly a controversial word. In the history of Art and in literature, the time frame of Modernism is debatable however it is usually deemed to denote the very specific time period between the first and second world wars. However, traces of Modernism are found in the every day lives of people across the globe. In theory, a museum exhibition of Modernism would be an almost impossible endeavor if one wanted to truly show the far reaching reign of the ideals of Modernism, how they affected nearly every single aspect of life during that time, and how consequently, our “modern”, as in, the present, world has been wholly influenced by this brief period of time nearly 100 years ago. Read more »

DC in the Pink

Every year cherry trees bloom and draw millions of visitors to the nation’s capital to absorb the views of pink and white. Some years it is so cold the buds barely want to peek out, and others it is so hot that they burst out, bloom and snow a pink storm of petals before anyone realizes that the event has happened. The fickle seasons of DC makes guessing when the trees will bloom almost as exciting as gambling in Las Vegas, and as predicable with the results. Read more »

Okay, maybe not "littered", but it appears so in this video from Lincoln Park in Capitol Hill last year. Happy Easter!

Shamrock Fest Brings Out the Irish in Everyone at RFK

Proudly representing the Irish flag the 6th Annual Shamrock Festival

For those of you lucky enough to have attended Washington, DC's 6th Annual Shamrock Fest last Saturday you may have noticed a few things. First off the weather couldn't have been better with the sun shinning brightly and temperatures in the 60's. Also, there was three times the space this year with HiBall Events' decision to move the festival away from the crowded Ballston area to the open parking lot at RFK. Many people initially complained about this change of venue and even protested with Anti-Shamrock Fest parties, but I for one appreciated more entrances, more beer taps, and more bathrooms Read more »
